Oracle Fusion Middleware

Introduction

Oracle Fusion Middleware(OFM, aka Fusion Middleware) is the entire suite of middleware used to run modern, standard based applications. It provides a runtime environment for applications written to the java platform, Enterprise Edition APIs, Service-Oriented Applications, and much more!

OFM spans multiple services, including J2EE and developer tools, integration services, business intelligence, collaboration, and content management. OFM depends on open standards such as BPEL, SOAP, XML and JMS.

Developer Tools

Oracle Forms

Oracle Forms, a component of the Oracle Developer Suite, is Oracle's long-established technology to design and build enterprise applications quickly and efficiently. With a large and active customer base supporting mission-critical, Forms-based applications—including Oracle's own E-Business Suite—Oracle will support and improve upon Forms technology for many years to come.

Oracle Forms is a member of the Oracle Fusion Middleware family of products, which bring greater agility, better decision-making, and reduced cost and risk to diverse IT environments today.

Oracle's continuining commitment to Forms technology enables you to upgrade and integrate existing Forms applications, preserving your Forms investment. Not only can your applications be deployed to the Web, but they can also be part of a Service-Oriented Architectural (SOA) environment built from Web services.
Over 20 year of service and still evolving…
Key features:
  • Declarative development
  • Familiarity with PL/SQL is rewarded
  • Integration with database - Business code resides on the database giving minimal network overhead
  • Take full advantage of the application server services and inter-operate with J2EE applications.
  • Runs in a J2EE container  (Web Logic Server) and can integrate with web services.

Oracle Reports

Oracle Reports, a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware.
A powerful, declarative WYSIWYG reports design tool .
Over 20 year of service and still evolving…
Key features:
  • Declarative development
  • Familiarity with PL/SQL is rewarded
  • WebDB integration
  • Output: XML(1.1), HTML(4.01), PDF, Spreadsheet (Excel, eo), …
  • Query types: Database, XML, JDBC, OLAP, text files, …
  • Java Importer
  • JDeveloper Integration
  • Graphing

Oracle Designer

Oracle Designer is a CASE tool that is sold by Oracle.
It incorporates support for system analysis, software design, automatic code generation and business process re-engineering.

It is able to generate various software modules including Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports.
It can be used both to build databases (with a separate logical and physical model if so desired) and to build applications in Forms and Web PL/SQL (or even in Visual Basic, once)

Application Development Framework (ADF)

Oracle ADF is a flexible framework which makes it much easier for the JEE developer to develop applications. Furthermore, Oracle ADF also makes use of a declarative approach which makes it possible to come to high quality solutions by way of wizards. The whole package therefore offers both a saving in time as well as an increase in quality !
JDeveloper and ADF are especially intended to optimize productivity of the developer. This occurs through giving the developer complete freedom in his/her choice of the technology to be employed. He/she is therefore not obligated to use one specific technology, style, platform and/or tool (IDE).
Advantages of ADF are :

  • Free choice of technology
  • Productivity
  • Seperation of Concerns
  • Open Standards & Easy Integration

Oracle Data Integrator

Oracle Data Integrator is a comprehensive data integration platform that covers all data integration requirements from high-volume, high-performance batches, to event-driven, trickle-feed integration processes, to SOA-enabled data services.
There are 5 reasons why you would choose Oracle Data Integrator :
  • Performance : Unique scalable architectural approach
  • Flexibility : One platform with several data integration styles
  • Productivity : Declarative design combined with high reusability
  • Modularity : Hot pluggable modules
  • Vision : Service Oriented bulk data integration
